Where to Stay in Puerto Escondido

La Punta, Zicatela or the Adoquín for a short trip, and the five areas for a longer stay

By StayMXOctober 29, 2026

For a short stay, the choice is mostly about atmosphere. La Punta is the easiest base without a vehicle: walkable, social, with the best sunsets. Zicatela is big surf and nightlife (not a swimming beach). Centro / Adoquín is local, central, the cheapest and closest to the markets.

Where to stay for a short visit

AreaBest for

Even for a week, La Punta and Zicatela are completely different holidays. Markets run in the Adoquín on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Getting around

  • Colectivos run the main road cheaply and frequently; the areas are further apart than the map suggests.
  • A moto is the common choice for anyone staying more than a week, especially in Bacocho.

Good to know

  • Cash: most places are cash only, and ATMs charge roughly $35–60 MXN per withdrawal, so take out less often.
  • Internet: fiber reaches Rinconada and parts of Bacocho; La Punta is mostly wireless or Starlink. Confirm at the specific address if you'll work remotely.
  • Surf: south swell season runs May to October, with the biggest waves at Zicatela.
